3D Printed Ammo Boxes — What to Expect and How to Care for Them
If you've never ordered a 3D printed product before, you might have questions. What's it actually made of? Does it feel cheap? What do those layer lines mean? This post answers all of that.
What Our Boxes Are Made Of
All SquigglePrintz ammo storage boxes are printed using PLA or PETG filament, depending on the model. These are strong, lightweight thermoplastics commonly used in functional consumer products. They're not brittle, not flimsy, and not fragile — they're designed to be used regularly at the range and in storage.
The snap-lock lid design is tested to close and hold securely through normal handling. Your rounds won't fall out if you toss the box in your range bag.
What "Made to Order" Means
Unlike products sitting in a warehouse somewhere, every SquigglePrintz box is printed specifically for you after you place your order. This means:
- No excess inventory sitting in a landfill
- Every box is freshly made, not old warehouse stock
- Production typically takes 1–3 days; shipping adds a few more
- You can expect delivery in approximately 5–7 business days in most cases
We print from Fargo, North Dakota on a 10-printer Bambu farm, so output is fast and consistent.
About Layer Lines and Surface Finish
3D printed parts have a characteristic surface texture from the printing process — subtle horizontal lines called layer lines. These are completely normal and do not affect the function or strength of the box. If you look closely, you'll see them. At arm's length, they're barely visible.
Some color options may show layer lines more prominently than others. This is cosmetic only.
Color Options
Our boxes are currently available in Black, Olive Green, Navy, and Gray, with gold accent details available via dual-material printing. Colors may vary slightly from screen to printed result due to filament variation — the differences are subtle.
Caring for Your Box
- Temperature: Keep away from extended exposure to very high heat (above 140°F / 60°C) — so don't leave them in a hot car for hours on end.
- Cleaning: Wipe with a damp cloth. Don't submerge or use harsh solvents.
- Storage: These are designed for indoor storage. They'll hold up fine in a gun safe, ammo cabinet, or range bag.
