Range Bag Organization Guide for Serious Shooters
There are two kinds of range days: the ones where everything is dialed in and you spend your time shooting, and the ones where you're digging through your bag for brass, a mag, or the right box of ammo. This guide is about getting into the first category every time.
Start with Caliber-Specific Ammo Storage
The single biggest upgrade you can make to your range bag setup is moving from loose ammo or factory cardboard boxes to dedicated storage boxes for each caliber. Cardboard boxes fall apart, spill, and don't stack. A good hard-shell storage box keeps rounds organized, protects them from moisture and impact, and makes grabbing the right caliber fast.
Use one box per caliber. Label it. Stack them. That's it — no more digging.
We carry caliber-specific ammo storage boxes for pistol, rifle, rimfire, and specialty rounds, all made to order and printed in Fargo, North Dakota.
Zone Your Range Bag
Think about your range bag in zones based on how often you access each item:
- Top/front pockets — frequent access: Ammo boxes for your primary caliber, a staple or target clips, ear protection
- Main compartment — equipment: Pistols or long gun accessories, cleaning kit, extra magazines
- Side pockets — misc: Brass bag, marker, phone charger, snacks
Keeping your ammo in the top or front pocket means you're not rooting through the whole bag every time you need to reload. And if you shoot multiple calibers, putting each in a labeled storage box means you grab the right one every time.
Manage Your Brass
If you reload or just want to keep your spent brass, bring a small mesh bag or bucket. Toss your brass in as you go, separate it from your live rounds, and you won't be chasing 9mm cases across the range floor.
The Reload Station Mindset
Think of your range bag as a personal reload station. Everything has a place. When you're on the line, you should be able to access what you need without breaking your focus. Clean ammo storage, organized magazines, and a consistent packing system means faster, more focused shooting sessions.
It doesn't take much to get there — start with the ammo. Shop all SquigglePrintz ammo storage boxes — available for 9mm, .45 ACP, 5.56, .308, .22LR, and dozens of other calibers.
